Helen has run her own consultancy since 2007, working as a specialist in taxonomy, metadata, ontologies and enterprise search. She loves getting stuck into projects, and working with clients to figure out how best to use the messy content and data they have. She has worked for organisations including the BBC, gov.uk, Financial Times, Time Out, RIBA, Metropolitan Police, Pearson, Electronic Arts and the Press Association. She writes and speaks regularly, and is always good-humoured if anyone asks her if she stuffs animals for a living.

Helen Challinor is the Taxonomy and Thesaurus Manager at the Department for Education. She is a librarian with 26 years of experience of working in knowledge and information management in central Government. She is a member of the ISKO UK executive committee and co-chair of the UK based group Taxonomies in the Public Sector.
Jeff Fried

Jeff Fried, Director of Product Management for InterSystems, is a long-standing data management nerd, and particularly passionate about helping people create powerful data-driven applications. Prior to joining InterSystems, Jeff was CTO of BA Insight, and ran product management for FAST Search and Transfer and for Microsoft. He has extensive experience in data management, text analytics, enterprise search, and interoperability. Jeff is a frequent speaker and writer in the industry; holds 15 patents; and has authored more than 50 technical papers and co-authored three technical books.
Aref Makooi
Freelance Consultant, UK
Aref has been working as an information professional for over 30 years. He achieved his PhD in the early 90s. He has been working as a freelance consultant for the past 15 years working with private, public and international clients devising IA and UX strategies, research and user testing, taxonomies and metadata schema.
